What Is A Leather Healing Balm

By Jessica Barron 04 Dec 2020 0 Comment(s)

We call it Leather Re-Colouring Balm, but people often refer to it as a healing balm due to the way it restores ‘heals’ leather. It is a pigmented cream that has been designed to quickly and easily restore tired, faded and damaged leather.

How does the Leather Balm work?

For scuffs, scratches and lightly cracked leather, a Leather Balm will soak into the damaged area and restore the colour, blending it into the surrounding leather and making them appear almost invisible.

It's important to note that a Balm will only work if the scuffs, scratches and cracks are a lighter colour than the leather. If the scuff or scratch is darker than the surrounding area, you will need a Complete Leather Repair Kit.

A Leather Balm also works great for helping to restore the colour back to absorbent leather which may have suffered from colour fading due to exposure to sunlight, direct heat and general wear.

To test if your leather is absorbent, drip a drop of water onto an undamaged area of leather and rub it in with your finger. If the leather darkens and the water soaks in, the leather is absorbent.

There are 21 colours formulated for use on leather from a dark to light shade so you can be sure to find one to match your leather item.

As the Leather Balm soaks into the leather, it also helps heal and restore any dry and worn areas by keeping the surface soft, supple and durable.

How to apply Leather Balm

Step 1. Cleaning the Leather

Clean the leather first with our Leather Cleaner - This leather cleaner deep cleans to remove all dirt, but also opens the pores of the leather so that the balm will absorb better.

Step 2. Healing the leather

Rub the Leather Balm into the leather in a circular motion. Leave the Balm to soak into the leather for 10 minutes, then take a clean cloth and buff the surface of the leather. Make sure there is no excess balm left on the leather.

Step 3. Polishing the Balm

After buffing, the leather becomes 100% colourfast. For thorough protection and longevity of your leather, we recommend applying the Leather Protection Cream, this will help to reduce future fading and damage.
